If you would like to use your health insurance, and it is not listed above, you could contact your insurance company and ask for list of in-network providers. It is also possible that your insurance plan may reimburse you for services provided by out-of-network mental health providers (like me). If you would like to pursue this option and see me, I encourage you to contact your insurance company and ask them if your insurance plan offers reimbursement for out-of-network video telehealth outpatient mental health psychotherapy from a licensed psychologist. If so, after your session, I can provide you with a “superbill” (which is similar to a receipt, including information about the services provided and a clinical diagnosis), and you may submit that to your insurance for a possible reimbursement.
For those who are unable to afford the above-listed rates and do not have health insurance with adequate mental health benefits, I also offer services through Open Path Collective (https://openpathcollective.org) at a significantly reduced rate. Please note that these low-fee spots are limited. If Open Path Collective is not an option, and you are in MN, you may try to see a different provider for free or at a low cost at the Walk-In Counseling Center (https://walkin.org).
Also, to maintain compliance with the federal “No Surprises Act,” I will provide you with a “Good Faith Estimate” prior to starting treatment. This is an estimated total number of sessions I may provide you and the associated total cost. Please note that it is difficult to predict the exact number of sessions clients may need, due to the variability of mental health needs, individual circumstances, environmental situations, and adherence to treatment recommendations, thus this estimate may need to be changed and updated as treatment progresses. These changes will be discussed with you. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. This Good Faith Estimate is neither a bill nor a contract that requires you to participate in psychotherapy services; rather, you may choose to discontinue treatment at any time, regardless of the estimated number of sessions indicated in your Good Faith Estimate. If your billed amount is above the Good Faith Estimate, please let me know, and we can likely come to an agreement. If you are not satisfied with the agreement, you may be eligible to dispute your bill (if it is $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate) with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Should you choose to dispute your bill with the Department of Health and Human Services, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (approximately four months) of the date on the original bill. You may call the number or see the website below for this dispute process:
